Meeting Michel Gondry There is probably a meter somewhere that measures how much fun you are having at school. Or maybe its a bucket, swinging by the handle with each addition of enjoyment. This bucket probably exists somewhere under the tunnels of MIT, and when it fills up past its capacity it tips over and you get showered with psets and tests and remember why you were there in the first place. My bucket sort of exploded last Saturday and thus the five exams and psets followed quickly after but it was totally, totally worth it. A little background, with a lot of parentheses: I just got picked to be a FAP (Freshman Arts Program) counselor, which is an FPOP (Freshman Pre-Orientation Program) that takes place the week before orientation (the week before classes start for freshmen). FAP involves spending a little time in your discipline (either music, creative writing, visual arts, photography, dance, theater, or film my discipline, which you should all sign up for) and the rest of the time participating in random arts activities (like building a city out of trash, or seeing an improv show in Boston, or having a talent show/karaoke/dance party). Not only is FAP one week of pure awesome (I mean, come on, you get to hang out with The Angela Monster), but you also just might get the chance to participate in crazy incredible opportunities like this one. Three weeks ago the Office of the Arts invited a handful of MIT undergrads (all FAPers, though not necessarily from film) to participate in the Michel Gondry exhibit at the Deitch Gallery in New York, inspired by his new movie, Be Kind Rewind. The movie features two guys left in charge of a video store (Mos Def and Jack Black), one of whom is accidentally magnetized and causes all the tapes to be erased. Left to their own devices, the pair is forced to recreate all the movies in the store, or swede them. Sweding, a term coined in the film, implies that the movie is made under a strict time restraint and creative use of limited resources, i.e. switching the camera to night vision for a evening shot, with the characters wearing photocopied masks of their faces so as not to invert their skin tones. Gondry is most famous for this type of organic innovation, as seen in his 2004 Academy Award-winning film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. He is also known for his visually stunning music videos such as The White Stripes Fell in Love With a Girl, Foo Fighters Everlong, and Radioheads Knives Out, as well as several videos for Björk. He served as an artist-in-residence at MIT in 2005 and 2006, and also just recently came to visit us at the begining of February to screen Be Kind Rewind. [At MIT,] you can try something, and even if it don’t work, you can try something else, he said, during an interview after the screening. And I really like that. So it takes four hours to get from Boston to New York, which means we had to get on the earliest possible bus 8 AM. Getting on the earlierst possible bus meant getting on the earliest possible T, which meant getting up at 5:30 AM. And it was raining. After breakfast at McDonalds and a four-hour nap, we got off the bus and, lead by the director of the artist-in-residence program Michele Oshima, headed off into New York to grab food. Thus began probably one of the most well-fed days of my collegiate life. Lunch was at an organic French bakery/restaurant and MIT Office of the Arts picked up the tab, so when they asked us if we wanted dessert the answer was DEFINITELY a yes. (Except for Ken, who got another quiche.) After eating, we visited a small gallery featuring the short films of an Australian artist, Tracey Moffatt Artist, Lip, and Doomed all of which were compilations of movie clips, edited to create an ironic social commentary. Doomed resonated with me in particular, as it showed several clips of large-scale disasters in succession such that that we were essentially desensitized to it upon leaving the gallery. And finally, we made it to the Deitch Gallery! We were told that we would have two and a half hours to make the movie 45 minutes each in Workshops 1 and 2, where we would plan it out, and 1 hour to film. We were then directed to Workshop 1, where we were given a variety of instructions, including picking a genre, a title, writing out a 8-10 sentence storyline, and considering the different sets we had available to use. I became the cameraperson, which means thats my ugly handwriting on the whiteboard. Workshop 1 was conveniently located above the rest of the gallery, so that we could look over the balcony and see the various sets available: After Workshop 1, we made props and storyboarded the movie at Workshop 2, which we later discovered we did mostly wrong. But we continued on to make our movie anyway! Filming was pretty crazy and stressful, but we were pretty much used to that from school, so I really enjoyed directing. The movie starred Sila 11, Dave 10, and May 11, the last three emotional people in a world of apathy, who decide to use their talents to cure everyone of their indifference and are eventually get sucked in themselves. (Hence the giant FAIL on the whiteboard.) Oh, and then Michel Gondry came and watched our movie. We were all kind of embarrassed about showing it in front of people in the first place, but showing it in front of Michel Gondry felt a little like throwing together everything you have in your refrigerator at the end of term (for me, hummus, saltines, and orange juice) and serving it to Martha Stewart. It was certainly not the best job we couldve done, especially filming in just one hour with no editing, but thats not to say it wasnt a ridiculously fun experience. Running around and trying to find the next set to film in was something Ill never forget. And Ill definitely never forget Michel Gondry coming to dinner with us. Over dinner we talked about a variety of different topics ranging from our movie (It was.. okay!) to the importance of proper storyboarding (This (our storyboard) is not the best one Ive seen..), from Eliot Spitzer (I dont see what the big deal is) to prostitutes (They are so mean!). Mostly, though, he told us about his new movie, about a girl who comes to MIT to discover a world of possibility in various experiments being run underground. Hearing him talk about the film, as well as ask us pointed questions about the feeling of arriving at MIT for the first time, was incredibly uplifting, as a lot of movies try to portray MIT pretty unrealistically. The script is still in its early stages; even so, Im so excited for its release. As a whole, we left New York feeling inspired, and May left with a kiss on the cheek from Michel Gondry. Except she didnt know it was coming, so she moved away right as he was about to kiss her goodbye, and left Michel Gondry hanging awkwardly. Uhh.. I was trying to kiss you, but I will just shake everybodys hand instead. And everyone was disappointed. Thanks a lot, May. Taking out the trash in Penelope has been a problem for most of the citizens for some time now. Penelope is a small town with a population size of 198 people; it is located twelve miles east of the city of West in Hill County. I recently attended the city council meeting that was held on June 21, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. in the volunteer fire department building. I went there to observe the claim that some of the citizens of this small town were making about the trash problems they are having. The citizens are claiming that they have very unpredictable trash pickup times and they have no way to dispose of large items and yard debris. Trash services are very unpredictable for the community one week the trash is picked up at nine p.m. the next week they show up at sev en a.m. in the middle of a thunderstorm making it hard for citizens to know when to put out their trash. The community members in attendance are asking the city leaders for community development and structural change in how their trash will be picked up and for use of the city dump to be able to haul off larger items and yard debris that the trash company will not pick up. They are trying to influence city leaders to change the rules on trash services in the community and for help to alleviate the trash burden they are all having. The community members see a need to be able to have access to the city dump in order to keep their yards and property clean. However they are not asking the city to just open the dump to everyone all the time, they do understand that it was being misused by those in and around our community. They are just asking for the city to create a policy in how they can dispose of their trash properly and clarity on what and when the trash company will pick up their trash, providing that the trash company will corporate with the city and its residents. An employees childrens school or any education related fees or any admission fees. Any employee using mobile phone, laptop with internet data card facility, etc. All employee or a part of the employee is providing with daily lunch and evening snacks or in some cases also breakfast and dinner or may be especial occasion treatment at big food joints with all employees and their families. The employers using swimming clubs, golf clubs, gyms, holiday clubs, etc but the related fees or costs are all borne by the employer only (Ato, 2016). FBT applicability special cases are as follows Sherlock was an employee in his grandfathers business. He passed his graduate exams with flying colours and his grandparents gifted him a very expensive car. But in this case the car was presented because Sherlock being the grandchild and a family member hence this will not be treated under FBT. Roger was an employee with an employer under a special industrial award judgement. The award says that the employer shall have to pay his mobile and internet expenses. The employer was bound to pay these as per the award order provision which he was not if the award was not there in place as Roger was an employee by virtue of the award only and by no other manner. For providing cheap loan. Any entertainment benefit paid. For waiver of debt. For residual purpose. For property related. For housing for staying away from home. For providing house. For providing food and place to stay for more than one employee together. For providing tickets for airline or train or luxury bus. For tax exempt entertainment also. The various ways that an employer can apply to avoid FBT can be discussed below Employer can ask all its employees to make a contribution to a general fund which will be used to pay FBT only when such occasion arises and this fund will be transparent and subject to internal as well as external audit also for maintaining its actual purpose. The employer can in each case make an addition to the Salary or wages as required to increase the amount by the amount of Fringe benefit he have thought for the respective employee so that he will not be liable to pay the FBT directly but through the employees and the employees will bear the Tax on this as a part of salary income (Ato, 2016). In many cases the employer will ask the employee to make the payment of the benefit thus provided in general and the employees will directly place the bill to employer for reimbursement. This will save lot of FBT in the hands of the employer. GST and FBT GST (Input Tax) Credits are applicable to all acquisitions for the purpose giving it to the employees the input is allowable but there exceptions to this also where GST is not eligible for input credit. If the purchase is GST free or it is tax paid already. In case an employee makes a contribution for the FBT benefit received from employer either in full or part then the employer is bound to pay the GST involved in it (Ato, 2016). But if the employee directly makes a purchase suppose buying fuel then the employer will not have to pay the GST for fuel. This means the payment to third party by the employee is exempted from GST payment by the employer. There are certain areas where the employer makes payment to the employees but they should not be treated as the FBT at all by anyway whatsoever. These areas are as follows--- Salary or wages. Employees share purchases. Dividend payments. Superannuation fund contribution by employer. Employment termination payments. Payments of capital nature like First Home Saver Account or FHSA account. ESTRADA AND CORNELIO M. YAP JR. , Ateneo de Davao University ABSTRACT Research relating to pedagogical practices indicated a positive impact of collaborative learning among students involved. However, current personal computer applications for collaborative learning are limited and poor. In most cases, these applications installed on personal computers can only serve one participating user at a time. In another way around, only few can participate and the rest are just mere onlookers—which means such learning applications lessens interactivity amongst its users, considering limited number of units available in the environment. Certainly, there are different kinds of game frameworks and technologies used for educational applications and games. The proponents shall utilize the Multipoint Mouse SDK offered by Microsoft to create a multi-user educational game, in Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) format, which allows many students to interact with the same computer at the same time, to promote student engagement and participation as well as interactivity in learning the periodic table of elements. Evaluation and testing for the educational game’s features, applicability, interactivity and usefulness factors were conducted with selected 20 student respondents and 3 teacher respondents. By comparing and analyzing test results when used in a single mouse versus in multiple mice, it showed significant difference in classroom engagement, student participation and collaboration. These results show a positive and encouraging impact by the multi-user educational game to the respondents’ classroom environment. BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY In the recent years, technology continues to evolve and improves its capability, affecting every individual’s daily routines. Technology has wedged the different faces of life and redefined the way we live. One of the most common technologies used by people is the computer. The users of computers vastly increased and prospered since it was invented. Nowadays, computers in any form become an integral part of our lives due to its functionality. The purpose of computers has engaged into complexity which made everything possible beyond our thoughts. Now, the use of information and communications technology (ICT) for education is transforming the traditional classroom and encourages learners to progress outside of the 1 Estrada and Yap †¢ Page |2 four walls of classroom, is more personalized and has become a powerful motivational tool. The use of ICT in education is significantly helping developing countries to catch up with the education race—becoming a great equalizer and providing more access. The introduction of technology in the educational field has made the process of learning and knowledge sharing, an interactive and fun-filled activity. A positive and effective combination of education for children and technology could be a good impact on the advancement and preparation on young Filipino learner’s learning process. In advanced pedagogical practices, using Computer supported collaborative learning (CSCL) has become an essential part of the whole learning environment and the culture of learning. Children can find it fun to play with others and become engaged when they have the opportunity to share experiences with peers. Microsoft’s Multipoint Mouse SDK is one tool that we can utilize and leverage in developing an educational game based on the periodic table of elements that caters a collaborative experience to young Filipino learners. Multipoint Mouse SDK also greatly offers more interactivity on educational and e-learning tools, for it allows many learners to interact with the same computer at the same time. 2. TECHNOLOGY APPLICATION CONTEXT There are a lot of educational games for young learners that exist in the market, but most of these games cater only one person per computer, and if multiplayer option is offered and allowed, it requires some special hardware and software requirements to achieve such. Educational games consist of various rules, complexity, and for some, storylines. Of course, all of these elements must be collaborated seamlessly to the desired area of learning to make the idea and concept of the game easy to learn and understand. To attract users and learners, multimedia elements should also be embedded in the game such as graphics, text, and some animations. According to Microsoft, in a classroom of 30 children with only 3 PCs among them, 10 students’ crowd around each machine, while one student takes center position and controls the mouse. Other students point, gesture and compete for the control of the mouse, but they really have no direct control of the PC and often lose interest and shift their attention elsewhere. The proponents will try to solve this problem, by helping students to use a single PC to learn together versus having a â€Å"solo computer experience†. Additionally, educational applications, integrated with Multipoint Mouse SDK, offer a practical way to decrease student-to-PC ratios, and provide a platform for Windows education software developers to create collaborative learning applications. Our study seeks to create a multi-user educational game based on the periodic table of elements—without the hassle of intricate hardware and software requirements—that uses Microsoft’s Multipoint Mouse SDK. The Multipoint SDK is mostly written to be programmed in Visual C#, an object-oriented programming language developed as part of the . NET platform. For that reason, most applications are written in that language. OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY The general objective of the study is to develop multi-user educational game based in the periodic table of elements in integration with Microsoft Multipoint Mouse SDK. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY The development of Multipoint Mouse SDK-integrated multi-user educational game based on the periodic table of elements will be beneficial to the students—particularly those in high school, as well as to their science teachers. This study is significant for all young Filipino Learners who wish to learn the periodic table of elements in a much fun and interactive manner using our Multipoint Mouse SDK— integrated multi-user educational game. This study may help them enjoy the change in active peer learning, welcome the opportunity to work cooperatively in small cohesive groups, and be most enthusiastic about using computers in the classroom. Their participation in the classroom activities will enable them to increase their interest in the subject. This study is also significant to teachers who wish to aid e-learning, specifically in the fundamentals of chemistry, in a fun, collaborating, and practical manner. This research project would also encourage education publishers to build interactive applications that allow multi-mouse handling to simultaneously engage on a single computer with integration of Multipoint Mouse SDK. Further improvements for the SDK in terms of functionalities and features can also, one way or another, be determined and analyzed via this study. Through collaborating Multipoint Mouse SDK with the educational game for basic chemistry, it enables one computer to serve many users simultaneously. Multipoint Mouse SDK does not only offer a more affordable and practical solution in the classroom environment, it also creates an active, collaborative learning experience that engages each and every learner. Furthermore, this research project is geared towards the better utilization of the abovementioned technology. 5. SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY The study will generally focus on developing a multi-user educational game that offers and promotes an effective and interactive way of learning the basics of chemistry, particularly about the periodic table of elements. Topics beyond the periodic table of elements such as about matter, atoms, solving chemical equations, stoichiometry, and others are not included as content materials in the multi-user educational game. Realm of Elements is an educational game suitable for classroom setting and is not offered as a tool for assessing individual learning of each pupil, e. g. for grading purposes. Instead, the game will serve as a tool, as derived from one of the research objectives, to promote significant interactivity, peer-collaboration, participation, and learning engagement (not assessment) amongst students using the multi-user educational game towards the study of periodic table of elements. There will be five (5) modules in the educational game which targets different areas of learning on the periodic table of elements. Since this is game application to be used on PCs, currently, this research project will only work in Windows Platform. All parts of this educational game are in English language. Other possible sensor techniques, market deployment, economic viability, and other privacy matters are not included in the scope of the study. There are several functionality limitations of Multipoint Mouse SDK. Multipoint Mouse cursors cannot interact with standard Windows controls such as the windows message box, the minimize button, maximize button, close button, and composite controls such as in scroll bars and combo boxes. Multipoint Mouse can only be activated in one Window and cannot be disabled after it has been instantiated. Using the SDK in a multiWindow application will cause the mouse pointer to freeze or to be hidden. On the proponent’s current Multipoint Mouse SDK version used, the functionality of getting mouse wheel scrolling state event was inadvertently disabled. Lastly, the SDK cannot return the same Device ID for the mouse when a mouse is unplugged or re-plugged. Estrada and Yap †¢ Page |5 6. REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND TECHNOLOGY APPLICATIONS There have been set of applications developed using multiple devices within a collaborative context. The work of Villanueva et al. explains a development of a system in improving the collaboration possibilities among participants in face-to-face meetings and working groups. Participating users can collaborate through a shared zone using their own mobile devices, such as mobile phones, laptops, Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) devices, and the like. To be able to utilize the shared zone, the users have their own cursors so that they can identify themselves [Villanueva et al. 2010]. Shekhar et al. report their observations from an exercise conducted in India to help grades 9th and 10th teachers design games which promote collaborative learning. The authors have described a strategy for designing collaborative learning games, which is through active teacher participation. They present four key elements that are essential for teachers to successfully design games for learning: the affordances of the technology for which they are designing; a concept of how games will be incorporated in the teacher’s daily lessons; the concept of games and its interactivity; and an understanding of the pedagogical goal [Shekhar et al. 2011]. In another work by Gohlke et al. , the authors have built a set of wireless, mouse-like devices enhanced with rotating controllers that aims to integrate the flexibility and transparency of mouse interaction with the benefits of physical controllers. With the use of Microsoft Multipoint, their goal is to use such controllers for audio and video editing in a different environment, but with better flexibility [Gohlke et al. 2010]. Infante et al. present an application called Exchange—a collaborative learning application developed for wirelessly interconnected Pocket PCs. This application is devoted to engage students and their teacher in a face-to-face Computer Supported Collaborative Learning (CSCL) activity, in a Single Display Groupware mode. That is, three users interact on the same display using three different mouse devices being mediated by the technological network, while preserving the original collaborative interaction. When children work collaboratively together, they show increased participation in group discussions, demonstrate a more sophisticated level of discourse, and provide more intellectually valuable contributions to those discussions [Infante et al. 2009]. A study was conducted by Gupta R. et al. that evaluate single-mouse and multiplemice configurations for computer-aided learning in schools wherein access to PCs is inadequate because of financial constraints. The proponents of this related work developed a single display groupware solution that allows multiple computer mice to be used on a single PC simultaneously. They compared the groupware with single-user-and-singlemouse and multiple-user-single-mouse scenarios. Experiments were conducted with 238 students in rural India. They found out that multiple mouse configurations were observed to be at par with the single-user scenarios which suggests that the value of a PC can be practically multiplied by employing a multiple input, shared use design. Lastly, addition, a comparison of the two multiple mouse scenarios—collaborative and competitive—showed a striking difference in learning outcomes and user behaviors that is possible due to slight variations in interaction designs for multiple-mice. Estrada and Yap †¢ Page |6 A study was done by Inkpen, et al. to address collaboration preference among children, via involving pairs of children through playing a puzzle-solving game using three various experimental set-ups: (1) a paper-based style of the game; (2) a computer-based style of the game using one mouse, and (3) a computer-based version of the game using two mice. The authors developed an application using C++ and Microsoft DirectX and utilized input from one or more USB mouse. The results of this study have shown that providing children with support for their collaborative interactions can enhance their performance of activity, engagement, and motivation [Inkpen et al. 1999]. Collazos, et al. presented a paper that proposes a model describing how to design socio-technical environments that will promote collaboration in group activities. A game was developed by the proponents of this paper based on this model. The tool was used to conduct experiments for studying the collaborative learning process. Testing with this system revealed some strength and weaknesses both in sociological and technological factors. Based on their obtained results, they have seen that it is not only important to design a tool supporting the collaboration process, but also to consider other aspects such as teacher’s participation and learning goals, in order to have an effective collaborative learning environment (CLE). The use of the proposed indicators allowed the authors to identify strengths and weaknesses of the CLE they have designed [Collazos et al. 2007]. Bederson, et al. has looked at experiments using collaborative storytelling software with an aim to encourage and teach collaboration [Bederson et al. 1999]. The same software was used by Stanton and Neale, who studied the social interaction of the collaborations. These studies had children working together with independent cursor on a visual drawing and storytelling tool, but then the scenarios were limited to two children per PC. The applications studied were meant to enhance collaboration in classroom settings, and in most cases the educational goal was to teach collaboration itself among students [Neale et al. 2003]. Gupta A. et al. proposed a strategy for designing collaborative learning games with due consultations with pedagogical experts. In their paper, they specifically described a strategy for designing collaborative learning games through and with active teacher participation. Together with the teachers, they have developed a unique design methodology that helped the authors and the teachers to design and create collaborative learning games that supplement classroom teaching. After the final exercise of the workshop conducted, together with the participating chemistry teachers, they had formulated a game for students to construct a compound using the list of elements and balancing the equation—opening an opportunity of inciting discussions among students on which elements to be used. A game for secondary level chemistry was also then implemented to serve as a prototype for large scale development. With all these presented, the authors also composed four key elements that are essential to successfully design collaborative games for learning: (1) the affordances of the technology for which they are designing; (2) a vision of how the games will be incorporated in the teacher’s daily lessons; (3) the concept of games and interactivity; and (4) an effective understanding of the pedagogical goal [Gupta A. et al. 2011]. PROJECT METHODOLOGY Figure 1: Research Design Diagram This this study is divided into four (4) main parts namely: (1) Review and Selection of Tool and Platform, (2) Conceptualization and Design, (3) Development, and (4) Evaluation and Testing of the multi-user educational game (quantitative assessment on its features and functionalities) by selected student and teacher respondents. 7. 1 Review and Selection of Tool and Platform In this phase, the proponents shall review, evaluate, and select the tools and platforms necessary to develop the multi-user educational game with, of course, integration of Multipoint Mouse SDK. During this stage, the proponents considered a number of development environment to be utilized for the project such as using Adobe Flash Professional, Microsoft Visual Studio, and Microsoft Expression Blend. As we evaluated and reviewed each development applications, we decided to use Microsoft Visual Studio and Microsoft Expression Blend over other tools for the reason these development apps had more substantial documentations, are comparatively stable, and had more standardized processes in making Windows-based apps in light with the Multipoint Mouse SDK, for which we will ingrate in the course of developing our multi-user educational game. Graphics design and graphical interface and elements shall be made using Adobe Photoshop, a powerful multimedia application in creating rich visuals and graphics, suitable for our multi-user educational game. Estrada and Yap †¢ Page |8 7. 2 Conceptualization and Design This is the phase where the proponents gather topics and content materials (conducive and in line with the lessons about the periodic table of elements), design game activities and game types, and design the user interface and graphical components of the multi-user game. For the content materials, the proponents shall carefully pick the topics from various chemistry books and online resources and these shall be validated by science coordinators and teachers via the Department of Education and some academic institutions if the collected materials are suitable for the educational game based on the periodic table of elements. Regarding the number of questions, it shall be numbered ranging from 75 to 100 questions (or even more), depending on the module and shall be presented in a randomly manner. Next, the proponents shall design various game types and activities to cater student’s interest and entertainment in a way it can be utilized simultaneously, using multiple mice. Game types and activities may be based from games such as flash card games and memory games—the proponents shall develop these game types in a manner it can cater multiple users. In designing, the flash card games for the first three (3) modules, the proponents will have it base from Jefferson Lab’s Elements Flash Cards (http://education. jlab. org/elementflashcards/). Here, the goal of the game is to score as high as possible by answering correctly. Their version of the game is limited only in naming element names and symbols wherein no choices or options are given as the individual player must type the answer using a keyboard. Also, the questions or â€Å"flash cards† are given randomly and the player can set how many flash cards are to be drawn. As this version uses keyboard for answering, spelling and capitalization are also checked. However, our version of the flash card games shall be modified. This modification shall support multiple mouse handling, using the Multipoint Mouse SDK. The number of mouse connected (excluding teacher’s mouse) is the also the number of individual flash card that will appear at the main gameplay. The proponents will also consider hardware requirements of the game by designing the flash card game with choices (via clickable buttons) as the students will be only using a computer mouse. To avoid confusion in the single display game, each player has their own question box (user control) wherein they are restricted to go out beyond its premises. The questions are randomly presented and no questions will appear more than once if it is given to a player. The goal of our version of this game is to answer as many flash cards as the players can. According to Microsoft Multipoint Mouse SDK website, by leveraging multiple mice in educational tools helps students to be more participative and engaged with their lessons in a classroom setting, as reflected on case studies conducted. One of the modules designed and included in this research project is about mixing elements. This game module shall be primarily based on Aakar Gupta’s research (found in the related works part of this paper) in using multipoint devices for inducing collaborative learning. The proponents shall design a game module that enables multiple students to solve a problem by working together in a whole shared screen (unlike the flash card games where they are restricted to their own user control). In this module, the players will be Estrada and Yap †¢ Page |9 asked what elements are needed to solve the problem. They will need to click the necessary elements in order to solve the problem. They must work collaboratively in order to solve the problem as time given shall be limited. After picking the elements needed, all of the players must click the ‘Check’ button to verify their answer, of course before the time ends. The goal of this module is to help students familiarize common mixtures and compounds by working together in mixing various elements with limited time. Lastly, the graphical user interface and graphical elements of the game shall be designed by the proponents considering a number of factors such as colors, font types, shapes, forms, and even placements of elements. Colors to be used shall be complimentary to each other, and avoid mixing colors in the interface that is distracting for the users. The same thing goes with the font types, where the proponents will only use two (2) to three (3) fonts for the consistency of the design interface. Other graphical element, such as buttons and containers, shall be subjected to be complimentary and in harmony with each other in order create an appealing user interface suitable for the collaborative use of the educational game. 7. 3 Development Figure 2: Research Project Development Framework The figure shown above is the detailed version of third phase of the study’s research design. During this phase, the proponents shall be using Microsoft Visual Studio as Integrated Developer Environment (IDE). Microsoft Expression Blend and Adobe Photoshop will be used for most of the UI design, from buttons to containers. Multipoint Mouse SDK will be integrated by installing it initially, then make it as reference to the Visual Studio Project. Multipoint Mouse SDK’s instances shall be initialized in the main window. From this, the proponents shall try to tweak over very few default functions and Estrada and Yap †¢ P a g e | 10 methods offered by the SDK to support some features for the game not available by default such as modifying dictionary files to improve aesthetic button states. Imports of this type of date are nearly 30  000 tones a year. This type is exported from Tunisia and Algeria. Also deglet nour is produced in Israel. The United States is also a producer of this type of dates. Germany and Britain import not big quantities. Southern European countries mainly consume deglet nour dates. Not deglet nour called common dates by European traders. Germany and the United Kingdom together import over 10  000 tones of common dates annually. German traders need the low price for this type of dates. Common dates also used for food in Great Britain. Pascal Liu says, that European people know mejool since 1990s. However, it is only last three years that they have really taken off. Nowadays the United States share the European market of dates with Israel. As more and more consumers turn to organic foods, retailers will look for a complete range of organic products, including dates. France is the leading market for dates in the European Union. Its main suppliers are Algeria and Tunisia. The United Kingdom is the second largest European market for date fruits. Then Italy and Germany follow. Imports of dates increased last years. Germany primarily imports common dates. Consumption of higher quality dates tends to increase. Spain is the fifth largest date market in Europe. But it is remarkable, that it is a country where imports are growing. Tunisia is a leader in producing of deglet nour. The official production figure in 2001 was 107  000 tones for all varieties. Algeria is the second largest producer of dates in the world (deglet nour). In 2000 365  000 tones of all varieties of dates were produced. Iran is the second largest date producer in the world with over 900  000 tones. It is the leading date supplier in the United Kingdom. Its other two largest clients are Germany and Denmark(Liu). These countries export common dates. Israel produces little quantities of date fruits (9 5000 tones in 2001). But its exports to European countries have increased over the past years and now it have reached 4  300 tones. The United States exports deglet nour and mejool dates to European countries. It produces dates in California. Pakistan is the fourth largest date producer in the world with over half a million tones in 2000. Common dates are exported to Europe from Pakistan. There are significant trade flows between the countries of the European Union. Some countries re-export dates. They are estimated at over 20  000 tones a year. The main markets of France are Germany, Belgium, Netherlands and the United Kingdom (Liu). The other European countries re-export much smaller quantities. Sine 1992 the United Kingdom exports less than 500 tones to such countries as Ireland, Denmark and Germany. Germany has become the European Unions second largest date exporter (700-900 tones a year). Germany exports dates to such countries as Austria and Denmark. The Netherlands re-exports between 500 and 700 tones annually. Operations Our selling group will initially market its product to target clients. To achieve this goal: We will create bright booklets, brochures which describe the benefit of dates, its useful properties. These booklets will be given for free on the streets close to the college. There will be invitations at the exhibition of the dates also. We will post an advertisement about the forthcoming exhibition at the Internet, on popular social networks. We will organize an exhibition of the dates where fruits will be sold at low price. This is necessary for everyone to have a possibility to taste dates. There also books and magazines about date fruits will be sold. We will organize some lectures to tell more about the dates and even to explain how to grow date palm at home. For sale we need nearly 50 kilograms of date fruits and we will order it at the market. Also we will order some interesting books about dates. We plan to hold an exhibition for 6 days. During this time we want to show that if to provide an effective advertisement people will gladly buy healthy and tasty dates. With a help of interesting and cognitive booklets a lot of customers will get to know more about these fruits and re-discover it for them. At the exhibition everyone will get an opportunity to taste dates for free and then to decide if to buy it or not. All three kinds of dates will be featured at the exhibition. To every kind there will be a special description with its characteristics. Dates will be located in nice decorated pot. Two students will sale date fruits; one will sale books and two will give booklets to customers. One student will be outside near the college giving booklets to students. But before the exhibition we will provide some lectures about dates which will include history knowledge about these fruits. Two students will lecture; three will give booklets on the streets and one will post an advertisement about an exhibition on the Internet sites, such as facebook and myspace. These advertisements should pay students attention on the forthcoming exhibition. It is obligatory to create nice and memorable advertisements and brochures. The next day an exhibition will open, where everyone will get an opportunity to taste dates and to buy interesting materials about these fruits. In addition to this, we will try to use SWOT analysis in our business. Using this strategic planning  method we will get a chance to evaluate the  Strengths,  Weaknesses,  Opportunities, and  Threats involved in our business project. With a help of this method we will try to identify the internal and external factors that are favorable and unfavorable to achieve our objective. So, we will reveal all advantages of our business, its possible weaknesses, its external chances that may help us to provide better sales and also we will pay attention at possible troubles. Management We choose Grove House for our group. Grove house is a charity for the cancerous persons. We choose this charity and want to help the patient to improve their life. Another reason is Grove House is near the law school, not too far away from De Havilland Campus. There are six members in our group. We divide our work and have group meeting in every lecture. We have a finical plan about our cash flow. In our plan, we will earn 25 pounds and all of the money will be given to Glove House to improve the patients life. One student will write a lection about dates using interesting historical facts and other information about date palms. This student also will find some recipes of dishes with dates. So, the process will begin when everything will be ready. All the six days of selling are also planned: First day: Three students will lecture. Three students will hand out booklets and brochures. And one student will post advertisements on the Internet. Second day: Three students will sell dates. One student will sell books. Two students will hand out brochures. Forth and fifth days will be the same as second. We assign responsibilities in order to save time and resources. So, all the work will be done effectively. Risk Assessment The risk of this selling related to the point, that perhaps not all goods will be soled. Not all the booklets and brochures will be given. So, we may get a little profit or do not get any profit at all. Our costs can exceed the purchase. Another point is related with risk of lack attention of students to this arrangement. Our main clients are students. Surely, if we will provide good advertising, this arrangement will be undoubtedly successful. If we will pay not so much attention to advertising, so our selling will be not so impressive. So, good advertising is the most important thing for our arrangement. This plan is a guide for our action, the product and service part show what we will sale and what we will service to the customers. We want to believe that our first steps in the small business will be done successfully. We realize that it is impossible without mistakes but with its help we will get to know what to do in future. We believe also that our first business plan will help us to see by our eyes what the small business is and what this job demands from us. But it is not all that we are expecting to receive. How did you spend the Kadayawan Festival?

Kadyawan is a festival celebrated by Dabawenyos each year in the month of August. It is celebrated to thank our creator for the good harvest and blessing. There are lots of events, tourist from around the globe, TV Icons visiting and having Mall Shows, Sale and many marked down prices on almost all items in the Malls, Sporting events namely Motocross, Fun runs, marathons and many more. There is also street dance and float parade where each participants showcase the culture and creativity of Dabawenyos and many spectators enjoy the colourful costumes and designs.I spent the Kadayawan Festival with friends, classmate and family. On the first day of the festival me and my Classmates in English 102 namely Erix, Princess and her friend Jela went to a KTV near People’s Park. We sang, danced, and stuffed ourselves with delicious food and snacks. Even if we don’t hit the right pitch of the song we still had fun laughing at ourselves. We had so much fun starting at 4 o’cl ock in the afternoon up to 8 o’clock in the evening. After the KTV we went separate ways and my friend and I went to Gaisano Mall and had our dinner at Pizza Hut then went home.On the second day, my friend and I went to Crocodile Park and watch the motocross. It was my first time to see it in person and I was so amazed to see the stunts like floating in the mid air. I was also impressed to see kids driving side by side with professional motocross racers. After watching motocross we to a restaurant and had some Pancit for snack then went to Nccc Mall. I bought some toys and books for my son. It was so crowded in the Mall because Enrique Gil was there but I was not able to see even just a glimpse of him.Then me and my friend went to Jade by the sea at Times Beach where we had our dinner and sang again in a KTV room. I went home past 10 o’clock in the evening. On the third day, Sunday, My Family went to church. I thank God for the protection and for all the blessings He h ad given me and for the good health especially during the celebration of the Kadayawan. Even if there are bomb threats and the City is on Red Alert, I would say that God shielded my friends, family, love ones and all who Dabawenyos from any harm. I never stop thanking him for everything.Before, I don’t usually enjoy Kadayawan because I only watched it on TV but this time that I had experienced the fun that I’d missed for all those years. But this time, next year I would make sure that in every celebration I will be there to have fun and see the different presentations of our culture. Three days of enjoying was not enough for me but it was still worth it. I would also like to thank our City Mayor for a well organized Festival and especially for keeping the City safe from terrorist attack. I am so lucky to be born in Davao and I am very proud to be called a Dabawenyo.

The first thing you have to be able to do is admit that you had a problem with being on time. The next thing you have to do is be able to identify what causes you to be late. The next thing that you have to be is willing to do is make the necessary changes to correct the issues. The issue can be corrected with acknowledging all of the above and realize that this can be a very career threatening thing.The admittance that you have issue with being on time is the very first step in starting the process is resolving the issue. When you are late the problem starts in the preparation of the day before or the day of. One has to be able to picture in their mind what needs to be the day before and have a backup plan if needed. If one is in denial that they have a problem being on time, then there is little that can be done to correc t the issue. Once you have acknowledged the issue then you can find a solution or set up some type of system to resolve it. One has to be able to identify what triggers or causes them to be late.When you realize the point when time starts to get in a bit of a crunch could be sign of you being late. You have to be able to figure out is it the day before preparation or is it that you may have to try to multitask. Multitasking is the act of doing several things at the same time to get all completed in a timely manner. One should be able to see the pattern and the signs that occur when they are about to be late. When you are able to make the necessary changes to eliminate being late then you will be able to see what a positive effect it has on all things in your life.Once the changes are made to correct the issue you should become a more productive person. The key to being on time is time management. If you are able to manage your time well usually you are always on time. I pride myself on being on time. I start the day before if I know I have to be somewhere at a certain time the next day. I start by doing everything that I can possibly do the day before so that it will not slow me down the next day. I start with the kids. I ironing their clothes, getting their snacks together, and making sure I know how much time I am going to need to get them ready.I can say that I am rarely late to anything that I am expected to be on time to. I accredit it to the fact I feel like I am going to miss something if I am late and I hate to be in a hurry or having to do things at the last minute. The issue will not just be resolved in just one attempt. You have to be willing to try different things over a period of time. You have to be able to set a realistic time frame that you will be able to say that you have the issue under control. One has to set short term goals and follow through with them. You can start as simple as doing some things the day before that you would normally d o the day of to save time.One may follow up next with trying to multitask and take care of several things at once but, do not overwhelm yourself. Finally you can use what you have been training yourself to do on a family outing and set a time that you expect yourself to be there. You can even go so far as to grade yourself. There should also be some consequences for you being late. You can make an agreement with yourself to take away things that you like to do. You should also reward yourself for being on time until you have gotten the issue under control. I could start by taking away television time from you or even internet time from yourself.You can reward yourself by buying something that you like. There should always be penalties for allowing you to be late as well as rewards for being on time. The main thing that one has to realize is the negative effect that being late has on your career. Being late shows signs that you are not dependable. You should think it as if you are go ing to an interview and that if you are late then you are not going to get the job that you so desperately need.
